Interesting Flash of Light Idea

Wow, Gigex came up with a clever reinvention of Flash of Light: enable casting while moving.

Blizzard without a doubt considers one of the strategic elements of being a healing in fights is whether you decide to move around or stand still and cast a heal. Heal over Time spells are less serious because they heal for small amounts at a time.

However, consider the fact that Heal over Time spells will stack in the Burning Crusade (Priests Renew and Druid Rejuvenation together, no joke!). What's the difference really between Flash of Light and someone who's packed with a bunch of HoTs? (I know though it's silly to compare one class versus who others) The only main problem I would see with this is that FoL simply is stronger than their HoTs, so it would have to be nerfed pretty bad in some way by increasing casting time or nerfing healing points. Also many peeps in the thread bring out the point that HoTs can be dispelled.

It would bring an awesome dimension though to the class. No doubt about that. And that's the simple reason why it won't happen. Unless it's a simple change that doesn't require extraordinary amounts of rebalancing, Blizzad won't do it. And unless it's a completely new spell, it's all about changing existing stats and stats on the stats and stats.

You'd still be casting it - and thus unable to do anything else. The beauty of a HoT is that it's fire and forget. I don't think this would really help us all that much.

What I'd like to see is the Hammer of Wrath (and the new 41 point Protection talent) cast time changed to work like grenades - able to cast on the fly.

or maybe, just maybe add a HoT component to Holy Shock, make it worth the 31pt and the 30s CD.

I wish Blessing of Light would give Holy Shock a 15 second HoT.

No, it isn't. A lot of what the classes do are so similar that comparing them makes sense. It's the rabid fanboidom on the forums that claims you shouldn't compare them.

Interesting nerfage for the upcoming PvP system:

-Abilities/spells/items with cooldowns longer than 15 minutes cannot be used while in the arena.

So no lay on hands in the Arena.

Bah, no comedy DI :(

That said, I am pretty sure that other classes are hurt by this more. For example no combat-rez's, no Retaliation or Shield Wall or Recklessness, no soulstones/reincarnation. In fact, off the top of my head, this is pretty good for Rogues and Mages, perhaps Hunters too, but sucks most of all for Warriors or Warlocks with a sense of humour (gogo gadget Doomguard!).

I actually had a better idea. Change the spells themselves:

Flash of Light, instant cast, self only, 10-15 second cooldown, raise mana cost a bit.

Holy Light, instant cast, 30-45 second cooldown, raise mana cost.

How does this affect us? No more channeled heals. No more being shutdown with counterspell. We can melee and heal, being both a low maintenance source of damage (we get our own mana and life back), and emergency spot heals.

Additionally, stacking spell crit and +heal no longer is much of a benefit to us. Instead, depending on our spec, we'd go for +damage/healing, +AP, +melee crit, or +stam and +def.

The channeled heal is what's keeping us in the back and what's hurting our melee aspect. And make the paladin a unique healer.

They'd have to come up with a new name. A flash of light is a flash of light.
