Interesting development changes

As mentioned in the comments below, Caydiem's given the scoop on the latest changes (or talent swap, rather) for 1.9:
- Blessing of Kings, the former 31 point talent in Retribution, has been shifted to the 11 point talent in the Protection tree.
- Blessing of Sanctuary, the former 11 point talent in Protection, has been shifted to the 21 point talent in the same tree.
- Holy Shield, the former 21 point talent in Protection, has been shifted to the 31 point talent in the same tree and has had its mana cost slightly reduced.
- Repentance, the former 31 point talent in Protection, has been shifted to the 31 point talent in the Retribution tree.
Very interesting changes... However, I wish Blessing of Kings would be the 21-st talent point in Protection instead. Read more about it in the actual thread.

I concur. I just may abandon my 31/0/20 build and go back to Ret now. /Applause

Now if tanking paladins had a viable taunt (holy shock + rightous fury is sub par, might not be with improved fury however, but its currently the best thing we have) that didn't require spending 31 points in the holy tree to get we would be pretty much done!

I have been toying with the idea of a protection build for a while now, but I haven't pulled the trigger because I was waiting for the free spec provided by the new patch. I'm fairly new to 60 and used a retribution build to level. I've played around with a protection build on the test server a bit and was enjoying it, but I just wasn't seeing the value of retribution in non PvP play. Seems to be a very situational talent.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I see the tree having a big boost with the addition of BoK as the 11 point talent. Now I can have the familiar SoC, Consecrate, BoK- all talents I used a lot in retribution- and still have a 31 point protection build. Sounds perfect to me, but I see people complaining that the loss of retribution kills the tree... not sure how that works.

I referred to Repentance incorrectly as retribution in my previous post. oops.

Do you guys use repentance, and do you think it kills the tree? I don't see it as a drawback personally, but maybe it has more uses than I'm thinking it does.

I use repetence a lot in pvp, It's very useful. It can be used to stun the other person so you can heal, or get a melee attack in, or use a gnomish death ray, or to stop a spell caster, or to stop someone from capturing a resource point in BG's, etc, etc. All for a very low mana cost.

I think the change kills people who were spec'cing protection for just reckoning and repetence as I was.

People who want to pve tank or play with a 1h and shield will likely still spec into protection. We asked for it to be mainly a tanking tree in pve and we got it. I'd like to see some new taunting ability in there, or something for aggro.

Basically I see the changes as giving us two viable trees now. I'm a little more up in the air about what I'll spec, but I'm still thinking 33 points in holy, 18 in retribution. I'll have to try it out the new retributionon on test first (if they ever get test pvp realm working again) though to see.
