Paladin vs Shaman Balance Redux

Tseric says among things:
Balancing classes in a 1 to 1 setting was something that was happening with the Shaman and Paladins. This conflicted with how all of the other classes were being balanced in a group setting, as changes could be made to a class with the overall game balance in mind, not one particular class such as was occurring.
Basically yet another reason as to why they decided to give Pallies and Shamans to both factions.

Thanks Ghmou.

There didn't seem to be much pvp balance, but I did notice every time the shamans whined about not having something in PvE they got it! Where is my earthshock?

Hamer of GG is the only buff we ever got that didn't come with a nerf attached. It's still a bit odd since people can heal out of it, and you basically have to spam the button to have any chance of getting a kill out of a 1.5 second cast spell in group pvp.

It's ranged execute...except it takes 1.5 seconds instead of being insta-cast and does a shitload less damage. Thx Blizz.

I made a pally last night during my regular server downtime. I usually play a Shaman but wanted to see what my alliance counterpart played like. I gotta say, having mail from the get go and the aura ability makes life easier starting a pally over a shaman in my opinion. I cant speak for higher levels, or 40+ shamans obviously...

I had a lot of fun with it but I find theres less downtime, better armour and the aura has a distinct advantage over totems in that its not on a timer and follows you everywhere.

We may have good shock spells as a Shaman but I personally feel we get the short end of the stick, at least up till lvl 40 anyway.

Bringing me to my point, Im unsure as to why Shamans and Pallys are compared to each other. Yes we both heal and buff but the little differences add up to make the two classes very different from what I can tell anyway.
