Lots of Mail

Sorry for not checking up on your mail faster, but sometimes I just don't feel like checking my email and blogging and all that stuff (usually when I'm in a bad mood, which I've been all week for some reason). Dunno, can't control it. Sometimes it just happens. Anyways, here it is and hopefully not a moment too late:

- Metrokard mentioned that the mechanics of Righteous Defense has changed. If I'm not mistaken interpreting his description of it - it now basically a buff that lasts x seconds and the mobs who target that character is moved to you. Seems like a good change because the previous incarnation got critique for being clunky.

- Thordurin sent me a pic of the Tier 4 Pally sets so I could host it (ImageShack fails!).

- Gmhou gives plenty of links: Pneumahagion on speccing Ret for BC, Johadaelak's post on SoB vs SoC, a Warriors grumbles on tanking and PVP, and of course the very long discussion on changing the Seal/Judgement system.

The numbers on the ret set (spell damage/critical rating) look low for level 70, and compared to the healing set.

The tanking set looks interesting, but shouldn't there be some strength on there? Doesn't strength somehow work with the shield blocking formula?

IIRR: Strength influence the value of blocked damage - more strangth more damage blocked -> less damage taken.

Agreed. The protection set is gimped without strength. I would guess they would add some strength to the mix before all of this is finalized. PvP in this set would be very depressing.

Strength does help with blocking, but its not as important as other stats. Namely, you want stamina and defense. 20str adds ~1 block.

Note the block value and shield block rating bonuses on the prot set. I suspect these are there to offset the lack of strength mods. Depending on how much ivalue strength is versus blocking, this may be a good thing, as protadins pretty much only need strength for blocking.

Agreeing with the above. Tankadins don't need Strength. Nice to have? Sure. Put in some +strength jewels if you want. I'll go for better mitigating jewels, that help much more than strength.

are these set pieces obtained seperately? As in, can you get a couple of pieces from the ret set, then a few of the holy, to juggle stats for hybrid purposes? And will that still be very feasible considering the fairly extreme nature the expansion content seems to have?

You can absolutely get pieces from different sets since you can get more than one set anyway. Only thing I wonder is if the set bonus' will cross over. I'm doubting that but if they can, it's a whole new era for hybrids being on the low end of the DKP spectrum :P

Why would you mix/match for? The ret set is already very geared for hybrid stats. Besides... you can always just get all 3 sets.

And you guys are giving way too much credit to block value. It's overrated. A raid mob is going to hit you for 1000 and you mitigate 130. The valuable part of +defense is that it boosts dodge and parry which have the same chance of occuring but mitigates a hit completely. On top of the fact that white damage means nothing for a tankadin you have yourself one worthless stat.

The tankadin set is perfect. It has everything a tank should have and modifiers specifically for a paladin tank (regen, int, and spell power).
